Imphal, July 13 2015 :
The Manipur Apex Co-operative Marketing Society Limited, Dingku road has opposed the plan of the Government to take over the land of the Society and build a tribal market .
Speaking to some reporters at his office today, president of the Society, Yumnam Ranjit said that it is unfortunate that the Government should try and interfere in the functioning of the Society.
The recent statement of the Chief Minister tried to portray the Society as a body with only 4 or 5 members, said Ranjit and added that at the moment the Society is paying the premium for 2.04 acre of land.
Out of this total area of land, the Government has given some land to the Department of Tribal Affairs, Hills and Scheduled Caste without conveying anything to the Society, alleged Ranjit.
Even now there is a case pending with the Court against the Government's move to acquire more land of the Society.
Giving more details, Ranjit said that at present there are 436 co-operative societies affiliated with them.
All these co-operatives are recognised by the Government of India.
For years the Society has been transporting goods for farmers, said Ranjit and added that this year permit has been given to the Society by the Agriculture Department to ship in 500 metric tonnes of fertilisers.
Moreover the godowns of the Society are being utilised by the Government to store buffer stocks.
Giving the credentials of the Society, Ranjit said that it is a shareholder of Indian Farmers Fertiliser Corporation and a sub-dealer of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilisers.
As such the Chief Minister should stop passing such irrelevant statements against the Society, said Ranjit and urged the Government to review its decision to take over the land of the Society.
