Public hearing on U-K road underway

Imphal, April 10 2017:
Public hearing pertaining to widening of Imphal Kangchup-Tamenglong road (Uripok- Kangchup road) has begun today under the Directorate of Environment Social Impact Assessment Unit Program.
The hearing will continue for 5 days.
150 landowners of Taothong and 63 landowners of Lamdeng Khunou took part in the public hearing today.
Dr T Brajakumar Singh, Deputy Director, Directorate of Environment, said, "The State PWD under the funding of Asian Development Bank will initiate road widening work on both sides of Imphal Kangchup-Tamenglong Road.
The State Government has not finalized how many square feet of land will be acquired for road widening.
That's why the public hearing will go on for 5 days in order to hear the views of the landowners.
A team comprising of 11 experts are closely monitoring the assessment work so that a report on the social and livelihood impacts the road widening project will cause can be submitted to the DCs and Department concerned" .
Land for the said project will be acquired from 13 villages located along Imphal- Kangchup-Tamenglong road and they are Taothong, Haorang Sabal, Heibongpokpi, Kha Lairenkabi, Kharang Koireng, Lamdeng Khunou, Laingamkhul, Lamsang, Awang Lairenkabi, Uripok, Kangchup, Lalambung and Iroisemba.
On April 11, the public hearing will be conducted at Cultural Hall, Phayeng, on April 12 at Lairenkabi Dramatic Hall, on April 13 at Heibongpokpi Lai Haoraopham Laibung and on April 15 at Shamushang community hall.
