Consultation workshop on skill development held

Imphal, September 09 2011: Diverse aspects of getting employment in foreign countries through skill development was deliberated in a consultantion workshop held at Classic Hotel today.

The workshop was jointly organised by Manipur Skill Development Society (MSDS) and Indian Council of Overseas Employment (ICOE) .

Former Home Secretary GK Pillai, who was the chief guest of the function, said that meeting company requirement is the key to get hold of employment abroad.

He added, there is no dearth of job opportunities in different countries, but the job seekers have to equip themselves suitably with the skills required by the companies.

GK Pillai said, 17 lakh people from his State Kerala are working abroad in different companies remitting back a whooping Rs 20,000 Crores every year.

President of the function, Chief Secretary DS Poonia, who is also the Chairperson of MSDS while delivering his speech said that the Society was set up on February 5 this year under the aegis of National Skill Development Mission.

He added, empowering the youth of the State with the required skills so that they may get employment is the main objective of MSDS.

Saying that IndiaSkills, Bangalore and Aspire, Gurgaon are the knowledge partners of MSDS, DS Poonia said that the Society has also tied up with different institutes across the country for imparting training and skill development courses.

The Chief Secretary further said that 100 percent of the course fee is being sponsored by the State Government while lodging, fooding and travel expenses must be borne by the candidates.

IT, beauty and spa, hospitality, security, hair and nail arts, aviation, retail, banking and BPO are the main areas where the Society is currently giving main thrust, he added.

DS Poonia further said that students who have successfully completed the training programmes would be given guaranteed jobs in their respective fields with minimum guaranteed salary.

Later, in a press conference, Ravindra Singh of ASPIRE said that health and hospitality are the two sectors where State youths may get maximum employment opportunities abroad.

As knowledge partners of MSDS, ASPIRE and IndiaSkills are putting effort to give suitable skills and knowledge required in foreign countries, he added.

Chief Secretary DS Poonia, Indian Council of Overseas Employment Project Co-ordinator TLS Bhaskar, Vivek Kumar of IOM and Vivek Srinivasan of IndiaSkills also took part in the press conference.
