Imphal, October 01 2011:
Decrying alleged communal sttitude displayed by dominant community on the Nagas at Kakching Lamkhai, Moidangpokpi and Heirok areas, United Naga Council (UNC) has expressed desire that its ongoing agitation be received in the right perspective.
In a statement, UNC observed that the ongoing economic blockade along NHs is the collective decision of the Naga people and they are not against any individuals, groups or comunity but against the GoM and its nefarious divide and rule policy of pitting one community against the other.
''As much as we would like to avoid any communal confrontation, the victimisation of any Naga individual, tribe or organisation, be it through mental harassment or physical injury, on account of the ongoing agitation for our Constitutional rights will be treated as a direct attack on the Naga people as a whole'', the UNC statement issued by its publicity wing said.
The Nagas wish for peace and harmony with the neighbouring communities that are based on mutual respect for each other's right over land and its traditional ownership.
The Nagas have their own traditional boundaries.
The Government of Manipur is fully aware of this fact, but has made deliberate attempt to bifurcate and carve out Naga areas by constituting a Committee for Reorganisation of Administrative and Police District Boundaries to fulfill its design of creating a new district without consulting the Nagas, the statement said, adding that Nagas would oppose taking away their lands at any cost.
