NE students protest in New Delhi to air region's woes

New Delhi, October 01 2011:
A sit-in demonstration was staged by the North East Student Organization (NESO) a conglomeration of All Arunachal Pradesh Student's Union (APSU), All Assam Student's Union (ASSU), All Manipur Student's Union (AMSU) Garo Student's Union, (GSU), Khasi Students' Union (KSU), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Naga Students' Federation (NSF) and Twipra Student's Federation (TSF) today at the national capital's Jantar Mantar.
The agitating students demanded repeal of AFSPA and to expedite the peace process (such as peace talk with the ULFA/NSCN etc) as soon as possible.
They also demanded the Central Government to solve infiltration issue (specifically in Assam) and that land should not be swapped with neighbouring countries like Bangladesh.

The demonstration also demanded to stop all mega projects like big dams and to improve education infrastructure.
The student organizations condemned stapled visas issued to citizens of Arunachal Pradesh.
They also called for a stop to discrimination and exploitation of the North Eastern communities in mainland India.
Leaders of these student organizations called on the political leaders in Delhi and North East MPs.
A memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, All Assam Student Union president Shankar Prasad Ray said, "we have met BJP president and we will meet Sushma Swaraj today".
On the future initiative, the student leader said that the student body would continue to initiate public meetings and seminars in Delhi.
Chairman and advisor of North East Student Organization (NESO) Dr Sumujal Bhattacharjee said "it is a process of a united move" .
