Governor, CM greetings on birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

Governor Gurbachan Jagat has extended greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of National Cleanliness Day, the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
In his message, Gurbachan Jagat said that the Nation has been observing October 2 as the National Cleanliness Day.
Saying that Gandhiji attached great importance to cleanliness, the Governor pointed out that cleanliness is a necessity for healthy living.
Observing further that cleaning of surrounding once a year on a particular occasion or function is not enough, Gurbachan asserted that cleanliness should be made a regular feature as it would go a long way in protecting people from various diseases.
While observing the day with cleaning up the surrounding, the citizens of the country must put effort to purify their minds, he said.
It was what the Father of the Nation dreamt of and wished, he said and added that only then, the observance will be more meaningful.
The Governor also exhorted to remember and follow Mahatma Gandhi's message of truth, peace, love, friendship and non-violence.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister O Ibobi greeted the people on the festive occasion of Durga Puja.
The Chief Minister in his message said that Durga Puja festival symbolises devotion to Goddess Durga and the triumph of good over evil.
The festival reaffirms people's faith in all that is good, noble, virtuous in life and inspires to strive towards peace and harmony, he added.
O Ibobi further said that the festival also reinforces emotional integration amongst different groups and communities which is currently the need of the hour in Manipuri society.
