Imphal, October 01 2011:
The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur to appraise the Centre to intervene in the ongoing economic blockades called by SHDDC and UNC which resulted in untold miseries and sufferings for the inhabitants of Manipur.
SDPI in its memorandum termed the mode of agitation adopted by the SHDDC as illegal even though their demand is a legitimate one claiming that the blockade is called on the behest of some politically motivated persons for taking political advantages in the ensuing General Election of Manipur.
On the other hand, taking advantage of the situation, UNC also for their ulterior motive, made a counter blockade which caused more sufferings to the people especially to those living in the valley areas, it added.
While prices of essential commodities have soared up sky high, the state government has been unable to handle the situation and maintain peace and tranquility in the state, it stated.
In order to maintain peace in the state and to relief the people of the state from the artificial sufferings, SPDI appealed to the Centre for their immediate intervention into the matter before it is too late.
