JNMDA celebrates 62nd foundation day

The 62nd foundation day of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy was celebrated today with cultural extravaganza at Open Air auditorium of the Academy.
Dy CM Gaikhangam, Vice-Chairman of JNMDA Prof H Tombi Singh and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, GoI KK Mittal attended the foundation day celebration programme as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
A souvenir to mark the 62nd foundation day was released during the function.
Besides, the function was also marked by presentation of awards to winners of gold medal in the field of art and culture during 2015-16 .

Speaking at the occasion, Dy CM Gaikhangam recalled the contribution of King Bhagyachandra towards the growth and development of art and culture.
He also said that it would not be an exaggeration to say that Maharaja Bhagyachandra visited all villages including those in the interior in his efforts to bring about the social, cultural and territorial integrity of Manipur.
It was due to the painstaking efforts of Maharaja Bhagyachandra that the present generation could secure a place in the international arena in the field of art and culture, Gaikhangam said.
He added that no other States in the North East could match the level of success achieved by Manipur in the field of art and culture.
He said that art and culture is one valuable asset people of Manipur inherit and this asset could never be stolen from the people.
The Dy CM urged all concerned to contribute for the preservation and promotion of art and culture.
He added that JNMDA is not the exclusive property of a particular community.
It is now the time for the people to show that culturally all sections of the people of Manipur are inseparable.
KK Mittal lauded the role of JNMDA in promotion of Manipur diverse cultures.
He urged all concerned to promote Manipur art and culture to higher level through the Academy.
Presentation of colourful cultural items also marked the celebration function.
