5 injured in alleged AR assault at Tamenglong

At least five persons including a woman have been reportedly wounded severely in an alleged Assam Rifles brutality at Leihaojang village under Nungba police station in Tamenglong district on Thursday, March 31 morning.
Meanwhile, Kuki Students' Organization, Jiribam-Tamenglong has lodged strong condemnation over the alleged brutality of Assam Rifles personnel towards the villagers of Leihaojang village in addition to demanding befitting action against the guilty personnel within 48 hours.
The student body also warned of intense agitation if the authority concerned fails to initiate befitting action within the stipulated time.
The student body alleged that on Thursday at around 5 am, personnel of Assam Rifles suspected to be from Kadamthal post entered Leihaojang village, located around 50 Kms [non-motorable] from Jiribam and conducted search operation in the village.
The AR personnel led by one unidentified captain summoned all the villagers and asked them about the presence of militants in the village, alleged KSO-Jiri-Tamenglong general secretary, Bruce Haopu while adding that the villagers were mercilessly assaulted by AR personnel when they [the villagers] told the AR officer about their ignorance of the presence of militants in the village.
He continued to allege that even women were not spared by the AR personnel and added that a mother of 5 children identified as Hoichin (45) was slapped, kicked and butted by the AR personnel.
"She is in critical condition now", he added, Bruce Haopu also pointed out that apart from the woman four other male villagers including a VA member and a school teacher were also brutally assaulted by the AR jawans.
He also identified the other four injured persons as Monna (21), a school teacher; Paogin Kipgen (45), village authority member; Lalgoumang Singson (20) and Lalchungsang Singson (23) while adding that they all are also in critical condition.
All the innocent victims including those critically wounded persons were administered local treatment in the village till now since it [the village] is located in a non-motorable place around 50 Kms away from Jiribam, he added.
While strongly condemning the alleged brutality of the AR jawans, KSO-Jiri-Tamenglong demanded befitting punishment of the guilty personnel within 48 hours and warned of intense agitation if the authority concerned fails to fulfil the demand.
In the meantime, Kuki Students' Organization-GHQs also condemned the alleged assault of Leihaojang villagers by personnel of Assam Rifles.
"It is a matter of shame and infamy for the Assam Rifles in Manipur that scandalous violation of human rights has been tremendously increasing in the State", asserted Seiboi Haokip while adding that the people of Manipur are now very much organized and prepared to confront the atrocious manners of the Assam Rifles.
The KSO-GHQs also warned that it will endorse any movement of the KSO-Jiri-Tamenglong if their demand is not fulfilled.
