Imphal, April 01 2016 :
A four-day residential cum awareness programme under the theme "Save paddy land & save indigenous
people" has kicked off at Kwakeithel Mission Compound today.
Orgaanised by the Indigenous People's Association of
Kangleipak (IPAK), the inaugural programme was attended
by Sapamcha Jadumani, chairman, IPAK, Yumnamcha
Dilipkumar, president, PANDAM and Luwangcha Chingkhei,
president, IPSA as presidium members.
Jadumani said that IPAK in co-ordination with the public
has organised the programme to create an awareness on the
increasing activities of occupying agricultural lands for con-
struction of schools, colleges and other industrial
establishments.
Opining that such continuous step would lead the indig-
enous people of the State to perpetual dependence on other
States for food items, he urged the State Government to
implement the Manipur Conservation of paddy Land and
Wetland Act 2014 at the earliest.
He also appealed to the general public to restrain from
construction of commercial buildings in agricultural areas.
IPAK would be organising similar awareness programme
including street plays and thematic songs presentation in other
locations in Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Thoubal, Imphal East
and Imphal West districts.
