An interactive session on the educational support system being provided to the students, teachers, research scholars and professionals in various fields under the Fulbright scholarships by the United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) was held at the Host of Hotel Anand Continental here today.
Principals and teachers from various schools and professionals from different walks of life participated in the session during which Sundershan Shah, Co-ordinator of the USEFI Regional office, Kolkata enlightened the gathering with the academic as well as cultural exchange programmes being undertaken by the Foundation.
Among others, Shah explained that the International Leaders in Education Programme (ILEP) is a programme of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department that is being implemented by the USEFI and IREX ( the International Research & Exchanges Boards), a Washington, DC based non-profit organisation, with the main objective of bringing outstanding secondary teachers from the Near East, South Asia and Southeast Asian to the US for a fivemonth professional development programme to enhance their teaching expertise and understanding of the best practices in teaching methodology.
However, the number of teachers applying for the programme from the North East region of India, including Manipur is abysmally low, he noted.
