To tackle the problems of the ever increasing educated unemployed youths in the State, the State Govt have directed all the different Depts to introduce various schemes with an aim to enable the unemployed educated youths to create opportunities for self employment by the year 2007.Meanwhile the State Govt has also appealed to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to provide a sum of Rs 500 crores as special package for implementing the Special Employment Generation Programme (SEGP) in the State.
Following the request, the Central Govt has directed the State Govt to submit Detail Project Report (DPR) of the SEGP to the Centre, said sources adding that the State Planning Commission has also instructed all the Departments of the State Govt to submit the DPRs of the schemes that are likely to be taken up by the respective Depts.
The Special Employment Generation Programme (SEGP) which has been implemented in the State from this year aims at providing self employment to 10,000 youths in (2004-05) and 20,000 youths each in 2005-06 and 2006-07.Out of the sum of Rs 500 crores sanctioned for the Special package, Rs 79.379 crores would be invested in the Senapati dist to create self employment for about 7938 youths out of the dist's total population of 379214 while Rs 23.338 crores, Rs 47.874 crores, Rs 25.687 crores, Rs 76.684 crores, Rs 43.10, Rs 92.005 crores, Rs 82.428 crores and Rs 29.503 crores would be invested in Tamenglong, Churachandpur, Chandel Dist, Thoubal Dist, Bishnupur Dist, Imphal West, Imphal East and Ukhrul Dist respectively for providing self employment to the youths.
