Imphal, May 30 2017:
In solidarity with the Nationwide strike by chemists against stringent regulations on the sale of medicines in the country and the squeeze on margins of retailers by Ministry of Health, chemists in the State under the aegis of Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association downed shutters today.
The mass shut down of chemists greatly affected normal medical works including operation.
Chemists at markets, main roads and localities were closed.
However, chemists opened inside the complex of Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) were not shut down.
Unable to get medicines, patients being treated in other hospitals faced a hard time.
According to some salesmen of chemist shops, many inconveniences will arise if the guidelines laid-out by Ministry of Health are implemented.
As per the guidelines, procurement of medicines by chemists has to be done through online which is cumbersome.
They observed that inflow of psychotropic drugs into the State may increase if the guidelines are followed.
