Imphal, April 29 2011:
Even though there is no clarity yet on the issue of affiliation to be granted by the Manipur University, RIMS administrators are reportedly confident of solving all the problems impeding smooth functioning of the newly established RIMS College of Nursing.
Informing that top RIMS officials are determined to develop the College of Nursing to a reputed institution and have been relentless working to get the affiliation nod from MU authorities at the earliest, an informed source said due to the clearance pending from MU, fresh enrolment to the College is being kept in abeyance.
Pointing out that inspite of the College's official establishment under the objective of commencing the academic session in 2009-2010, the inaugural session actually began from January 2010 .
With the MU authorities not granting affiliation to the College on the ground that its teaching faculties do not conform to the prescribed criteria and consequently rejecting holding of examination, first batch students of the College are set to lose atleast an academic year, said the source adding that owing to such an impasse relevant process for fresh admission also has to be shelved for the time being.
Confiding that hectic efforts are on to convince MU authorities conduct the examination to save the students' careers, the source further conveyed that final report of an MU team that recently undertook an inspection visit with regard to administrative set-up of the College of Nursing is yet to submit its report to MU authorities.
The source also mentioned that till finalisation of the affiliation matter and conduct of the annual examination, there would be no admission of fresh students to pursue BSc Nursing course in the College.
Apart from reiterating that only after the first batch students have been cleared to the next level (second year) would fresh admission matter be considered, the source contended that problems causing delay in affiliation of nursing institutes is not an isolated case associated with RIMS only for similar cases had been faced by other colleges.
Expressing hope that Manipur University authorities would soon grant recognition to the College to clear the path for its expeditious development, the source also opined that by commencing fresh admission process by September this year might not be presumptuous.
