New appointment of Judges

Imphal, February 27 2018:
District and Session Judge, Imphal East, Gaiphulshillu Golmei, has been handed the charge of the office of the Court of Additional District and Session Judge Fast Track Court Crime Against Women, in addition to her normal duties, by an order of the High Court of Manipur today.
According to the order, Ng Kipgen, Presiding Officer, MACT/Revenue/Cooperative Tribunal, has been appointed as District and Session Judge Bishnupur, consequent upon the retirement of Ch Brajachand, District and Session Judge Bishnupur (he will retire tomorrow).
S Tara Devi, Judge, Family Court Manipur, has been appointed as Presiding Officer MACT/Revenue/Cooperative Tribunal.
Dr Ch Shantibala, District and Session Judge Senapati has been appointed as Judge, Family Court and A Noutuneshwari Devi, Additional District and Session Judge Fast Track Court Manipur, has been appointed as District and Session Judge Senapati.
The order comes just nine months after Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurated the Additional Session Judge Fast Track Court Manipur Crime Against Women Manipur, at Lamphel Court complex, with the objective of speedy and fast disposal of pending cases of crime against women and children on June 27 last year.
During the short period of time, the Court has disposed some cases related to crime against women with landmark judgements.
Nearly 40 days after the Court started functioning, it had imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the alleged victim of a rape case, for misusing the law and initiating false proceedings against the accused.
On December, last year, the Court passed a landmark judgement (the first of its kind in the country regarding gang rape case) and sentenced the prime accused of the case to rigorous life imprisonment and 20 years rigorous imprisonment to the co-accused under 376-D of the IPC, amended in 2014 after the Delhi Nirbhaiya gang rape case.
