Imphal, July 23 2012:
The State Government has decided to sanction Rs one crore for each Assembly segment through the respective MLAs irrespective of whether one is in the Opposition bench or ruling bench from Special Plan Assistance in order to take up some key projects in all the Assembly segments.
Notably, for the current fiscal 2012-13, Centre provided Rs 450 crores to Manipur as plan allocation.
The amount was meant to fund ongoing key projects as well as new ones.
After distributing this SPA amount of Rs 450 crores to different departments, Works Department received Rs 133 crores.
According to information received from PWD, Rs one crore would be sanctioned for each of the 60 Assembly segments from its share of Rs 133 crores so as to take up some key projects uniformly all over the State.
Subsequently, all the MLAs, both ruling and Opposition, have been asked to identify projects/programmes which they think are most important in their respective constituencies.
Being representatives of their constituencies, the MLAs are best suited to identify what is needed the most in their respective areas, and it was with this understanding the Government decided to sanction the stated amount through the MLAs, said the source.
Relevant officials have also been instructed to prepare work programmes without delay once the projects/programmes are identified.
From the remaining amount after sanctioning Rs one crore each to the 60 Assembly segments out of its allocated share of Rs 133 crores, Rs 20 crores would be invested in Loktak Downstream Project.
PWD would utilise the remaining amount of Rs 53 crore in implementing major projects in and around Imphal.
But the projects which would be taken up with the available amount have not been finalised as yet, added the source.
