Imphal, January 23 2016 :
DESAM, All Inpui Students' Union (AISU) and Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) have asked the Government to take up all necessary relief measures and provide adequate compensation to all the people killed or affected by the devastating earthquake of January 4 .
Speaking to media persons at their Keishampat office today, DESAM president M Angamba informed that a joint team of three student bodies visited Kabui Khullen, the epicentre of the devastating earthquake and found that the affected villagers have not received any form of aid from the Government.
Whereas many villagers were found taking shelter in the nearby relief camps, children studying in the local primary school have been denied formal education since the devastating earthquake.
As advised by experts, many villagers were mulling to shift to a safer place.
However, the Government is yet to give compensation to the affected families.
Moreover, many school buildings damaged by the earthquake have not been repaired till date.
Urging the Government to distribute compensation money and take up all necessary rehabilitation measures by January 26, the three student bodies submitted a joint memorandum to the Chief Minister today.
As advised by experts, people of Kabui Khullen village have decided to shift the whole village to a safer place, said AISU president Salwan Khumba.
He then appealed to the Government to identify a suitable place where Kabui Khullen can be relocated and build/install necessary infrastructure like road, school, health centre, electricity etc in the new location.
Till date, the Tamenglong DC has not bothered to visit Kabui Khullen village.
This smacks of sheer irresponsibility, said ZSUM information secretary Z Victor.
