Imphal, August 18, 2012:
Negating its basic purpose of diagnosing and treating patients, Moreh hospital is literally lying in a state of comatose.
This was stated by Trinamool Congress Legislature party leader Dr Ibohalbi after a spot assessment today.
TMCs inspection team also included MLAs Elangbam Kunjo, Kh Sarat, Th Bishwajit, O Lukhoi and TMC Youth wing leader Premananda.
They found that the 50-bedded Moreh hospital was in complete shamble.
From outside, the large building looked like an abandoned building of medieval era and its inside was nothing better.
Beds laid at the hospital were seen occupied by jawans of Manipur Rifles rather than patients.
Some rooms were used as kitchens of the MR team and other rooms were used for other purposes, nothing related to activities of the hospital.
Costly machinery installed at the hospital were lying idle and the number of doctors and staff present in the hospital was quite dismal.
There were only two/three medical personnel when the TMC MLAs reached the hospital at about 8.30 am.
Though the hospital requires around 16 doctors, the Government has sanctioned only around 10 doctors.
But these doctors are not working together.
their duties are on rotational basis.
Nurses and para-medical staff were not present to the requisite level.
Dr Ibohalbi who was once a practising doctor was disappointed on seeing the condition of the hospital.
"As Moreh hospital itself is sick, it should be treated first before putting any expectation about Moreh hospital treating sick people," said Dr Ibohalbi.
Pledging that he would urge the Health and Family Welfare Minister to make up all the shortfalls and requirements at the earliest, Ibohalbi said that he would raise the matter in the State Assembly, if required.
TMC Manipur unit president Kim Gangte later inagurated an office of the TMC Youth Front, Moreh unit.
