Kangpokpi, February 13 2016 :
The Kuki National Front (KNF) today
vehemently denounced the reported collection of tax towards the
villagers of T Kholmun, a Kuki village under Kangpokpi sub-
division allegedly by certain armed group and demanded
clarification from the concerned.
A press communique signed by the KNF Information &
Publicity Secretary, LH Stephen said that on January 25
morning 13 armed cadres intruded into T Kholmun Kuki
village and demanded Rs 20,000 from the villagers as tax
while adding that they left the village only after collecting Rs
13,000 from the villagers.
It said that the militants took the village Church funds
contributed by Church members as tithe, offerings, etc while
the villagers could not pay the tax amount demanded by the
militant outfit.
It also alleged that the militants were stationed at a Naga
village called Thebram under Kangpokpi sub-division.
The KNF cautioned the militant group concerned to return
the Church funds which they had collected from T Kholmun
villagers on January 25 and abstain from further harassing the
villagers.
It further said that KNF will not tolerate its people being
threatened and forced to pay tax at gun point in their ancestral
land which the forefathers had protected even from the mighty
British invaders.
