Imphal, November 08 2018:
A large number of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) leaders and workers staged a protest in front of RBI Regional Office at Thangmeiband Lilashing Khongnangkhong today in connection with the completion of two years of demonetisation.
A large number of people led by MPCC president TN Haokip, vice president T Mangibabu, MLA (Sagolband A/C) RK Imo, MLA K Meghachandra as well as a large number of MPCC workers and Mahila members arrived at RBI Regional Office at Thangmeiband Lilashing Khongnangkhong and staged a protest raising slogans claiming that the Modi Government is an enemy of the poor people and the farmers and condemned the demonetisation move today at about 11.30 am.
Speaking to media persons by the sidelines of the protest, TN Haokip said that due to demonetisation, almost all the small and medium scale industries of the country were crippled beyond saving.
At that time, even the International Monetary Fund opined that demonetisation would lead to a financial crisis in India, he claimed and added that the Congress party organised the protest today condemning the Modi Government for acting against the people as well as to demand the Modi Government to step down.
On the other hand, T Mangibabu conveyed that when demonetisation was enforced, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had claimed that its aim was to eliminate black money from the country.
But instead demonetisation laid waste to many micro, small and medium entrepreneurs, farmers and people, he added.
Questioning where all the black money have gone, Mangibabu said that the only thing demonetisation has been successful is causing mass hysteria and suffering for the people.
Alleging that Narendra Modi is an enemy of the people, Mangibabu continued that the MPCC carried out today's protest as per the instruction of the All India Congress Committee to stand against such unethical actions of the Modi Government.
If the Modi Government returns again, then all the people of the country will be wiped out for sure, he added.
