Rongmeis in Delhi celebrate Charuangc 2018

The Rongmei people living in Delhi & NCR celebrated 5th Charuangc 2018 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New.Delhi on 3rd November 2018.Charuangc is the annual get-together event of the Rongmei people in Delhi & NCR.
This year too, the Charuangc was centered around games & sports including traditional sports - Football, Volleyball, Athletics, Tug-of-War, Arm Wrestling and Gah Pinhmei.
People were divided into eight houses named after famous mountains, rivers, lakes, landscapes in the Rongmei lands and historical Rongmei personalities - Kasuakcbut, Kamnyngchyng, Apinc, Alangh, Zeihlat, Khowduang, Gayriamnang and Meicriangh.
The meet was declared opened by Rev.Thomas Kahmei, the Convenor of Charuangc 2018, said a press release of Rongmei Phwam Delhi.
The stadium came alive as people turned up in huge number in their Charuangc T-shirts & traditional attires brimming with enthusiasm and sporting spirits.
There was much gaiety and vibrancy as the ebullient children of all ages stormed around the stadium.
They participated with vibrancy and character in the various children games.
Jeffry Panmei was awarded the most promising child.
The variety of mouthwatering Rongmei dishes & other North East cuisines added flavor to the sporting event.
Gaijianliang (Khowduang) was the fastest man and Loise (Alangh) was the fastest woman.
Thuiliangpou Panmei (Meicriangh) jumped the highest amongst won the men and Bela (Apinc) amongst the women.
Jianchui Kamei (Gayriamnang) won the men's long jump title.
Men's shot-put title went to Karim Kamei (Meicriangh).
The Rongmei traditional game "Gah Pinhmei" was won by Rahuailiu (Apinc).
Kamnyngchyng & Gayriamang were joint winners of men's volleyball.
The 6'3" Rongmei liangtuangh Huram (Kamnyngchyng) was declared the best spiker.
In the fiercely contested and crowd pulling arms wrestling Karim Kamei (Meiriangh) proved that he has the strongest arm though not the most muscular.
In the fun-filled Tug-of-War, the Gaan team (Bachelors) overcame the equally strong Meipu team (Married Men).
The Meipui team (Married Women) restored the pride of their counterparts by pulling away the spirited Tuna team (Spinsters).
However, the Tuna team exacted their revenge in the keenly played football match.
In the much-anticipated exhibition football match between the Rongmei Phwam Delhi and Rongmei Chamnac Phwam Delhi (Students Organization) the men outclassed the boys.
The boys came close to restoring parity in couple of attempts but the RPD goalkeeper frustrated them.
Apinc House won the much-coveted football trophy by beating Kasuakcbut.
Gailangam Gangmei (Kasuakcbut) won the golden boot, Gaidunlung Gonmei (Kasuakcbut) won the best goalkeeper trophy, Phianri Kamson (Apinc) was awarded the most promising player trophy and Sajingam (Apinc) was adjudged the best player.
Through sports Charuangc aims to bring the people together to build community bonding, to train the young in leadership role, to inculcate the spirit of social work, to revitalize the people to rediscover their traditional culture, folk dances & songs, dresses & attires and cuisines.
Gaikim Kamei was awarded the Charuangc 2018 Golden Boy and Apuangliu the Golden Girl.
Thuankulung Malangmei was given the Best Volunteer award.
Apinc emerged as the overall Champion House and Khouduang the runners up.
Alangh was adjudged the best disciplined House.
The Apinc choreography group entertained the crowd with their vivacious Pate Pate which was applauded to the end.
Pouh Kenan Kamei, President of Rongmei Naga Council Manipur graced the event as the Ginpy (chief guest).
He extolled the young people to strive hard to achieve great heights but at the same time to not forget their people and identity.
