Training prog on bee keeping held

A bee keeping training programme aimed at spreading awareness about how to rear bees and increase income of the farmers, was held at Yumnam Khunou today under the aegis of Khadi & Village Industries Board Manipur and NILSAL Yumnam Khunou Unit.
Speaking as the resource person at the event, Th Ibocha spoke on the importance of rearing bees.
He explained that farmers need to rear bees as their crops and plants will not bring a good harvest is there are no bees.
Explaining that the variety of bees known as Indian High Bee are most suitable to the land, Ibocha said that rearing just 20 boxes of bees for a Pari (or 1 acre appox) will greatly increase the agricultural production for the farmers.
On the other hand, the honey of darner bees can be sold for Rs 5000 to 10000 per 50 grams, he claimed and added that rearing bees is not a challenging task once the farmers become acquainted with the processes involved.
On the other hand, Khadi &Village Industries Board Manipur Vice Chairman Yumnam Indramani said that Loktak Lake is the main source of livelihood for the people living in the surrounding area while Imphal East is dependent on agriculture and as such, development in the field of bee rearing will greatly benefit the people.
Haraorou Tangkham GP Uppa Pradhan Th Sanathoi, vice president of Makha Shinglup M Tomba, Lainingthou Puthiba Seva Committee H Girani attended the event as the presidium members.
