ICAR wraps up 3-Day National seminar

A three days National Seminar on "Integrating agri horticultural and allied research for food and nutritional security in the era of global climate disruption" organised by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre from March 4 concluded today at RIMS Jubilee Hall, Lamphelpat.
Dr H Rahman, DDG (Animal Science), ICAR, New Delhi; Dr S K Mitra, Chairman, Tropical and Sub Tropical Fruits, International Society for Horticultural Science, Belgium; Dr K K Katoch, Vice Chancellor, CSKHPAU, Palampur and Dr K R Dhiman, former Vice Chancellor, YSPUHF, Solan, graced the valedictory function as chief guest, guests of honour and president respectively.
A total number of 422 delegates from 94 different organisations from across the country participated in the three-day seminar.

The chief guest of today's function expressed his satisfaction on the topic of the seminar.
He said all the agricultural universities and other ICAR institutes should join hands to bring a change in the agricultural scenario of the North eastern region.
The integration of agriculture, horticulture and other allied research is very much needed to increase productivity.
He cited the importance of integrating the animal science in the agricultural research to mitigate the climate change.
The recommendations made in the seminar will become the foundation and roadmap for solving agricultural problems of North East region, he stated.
Dr S K Mitra expressed the need to control post-harvest loss of food in the NE region.
He urged policy makers to focus in controlling post-harvest losses of food item.
Dr K K Katoch expressed the importance of conserving the natural resources by the adopting conservation agriculture.
The Government of India is working on bringing the second green revolution in Eastern India, he stated.
In his presidential address, Dr K R Dhiman said a small technological intervention in the NE region could bring a significant change in the agricultural development of NE.
"We have to have climate resilient and climate smart technologies.
We cannot stop the process of nature but we can certainly slow down the climate change to conserve the two most important natural resources i.e.water and soil", he stated.
The welcome address of the valedictory function was given by Dr I Meghachandra Singh, Principal Scientist, and Dr Narendra Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR-RC-NEH Region Manipur Centre thanked all the delegates and participants of the seminar.
