Imphal, July 12 2019:
After fuel tanker drivers launched cease work strike demanding an alternative arrangement to Imphal-Dimapur highway which they say has deteriorated very badly and poses serious risk, over 200 Imphal-bound loaded oil tankers and LPG bullet TTs are currently stranded at Khatkhati.
Generally, CRPF escorts bring convoys of loaded oil tankers and LPG bullet TTs up to Imphal on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
There has been no such movement of escorted convoys of loaded oil tankers and LPG bullet TTs toward Imphal since last Friday.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the State Government today issued a circular regarding movement of oil tankers and LPG bullets on Imphal-Jiribam highway in response to the tanker drivers' demand, and the same circular has been forwarded to IOCL's Imphal office.
Acting on the State Government's circular, IOCL's Imphal office would obtain approval from their North East Integrated Sales Office, Guwahati regarding movement of oil tankers and LPG bullet TTs on Imphal-Jiribam highway.
Sources informed that obtaining approval from Guwahati may take a few days.
Transport expenditure would be much higher on Imphal-Jiribam highway as compared to Imphal-Dimapur highway.
As such, oil and LPG bullet TTs would not take Imphal-Jiribam highway until and unless due approval is received from IOCL's North East Integrated Sales Office, Guwahati, said some drivers.
Saturday and Sunday being holidays, the approval is expected by Monday or Tuesday and empty oil tankers and LPG bullet TTs may start moving on Imphal-Jiribam highway from Wednesday.
It has been already reported that it would take eight days for oil tankers and LPG bullet TTs to leave Imphal and come back with fuel on Imphal-Jiribam highway.
