Imphal, February 25 2018:
Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the VC of Manipur University to give more emphasis towards improving the degrading academic atmosphere of the University instead of remaining out of station most of the time.
A press release issued by the president of DESAM, alleged that the VC of the University has been neglecting his duties and as a result, the academic atmosphere of the university is in total confusion.
The association claimed that the VC is never punctual in his office and more often than not, he is busy attending other functions like a politician.
Claiming that the time spent by the VC in going to other places or outside the State, is more than the time he spends in his office, DESAM appealed to the VC to take up necessary steps to improve the academic atmosphere of the university at the earliest.
On the other hand, DESAM pointed out that the screening for the 155 posts of University Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor has not been conducted till date although the advertisement for the same was issued on June 7, last year.
Questioning how the selection committee will select the candidates for the vacant posts when the committee cannot even organise the screening procedure till date, the association alleged that the guidelines mentioned in the order issued on September 1, last year, regarding the screening process, has been revised four to five times till date to please some people/ parties with vested interest.
DESAM further claimed that the posts of 18 key officers of the University, like Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Librarian, MIT Principal etc are still vacant although the necessary advertisement was issued on August 7, last year.
As such the University has become an administration run by in-charge officials, it added.
Pointing out that numerous teachers/Professors of the University have failed to get promotion due to lack of the necessary DPC, DESAM conveyed that all these are the responsibility of the VC and he should take up steps to improve the atmosphere of the University at the earliest.
DESAM further demanded all the aforementioned issues to be brought up and discussed during the Academic Council of the university which will be held tomorrow.
The student body urged the Academic council members to properly discuss the relevant issues of the university instead of letting some skilled orator speak for the duration of the meeting and being content with just applauding from their seats.
It informed that the academic council is an important meeting of the university and not just some Leikai Meeting and urged those concerned to try and bring positive change for the students and the university at large.
