Th Biswajit inaugurates food processing unit

With the conclusion of the three day food processing training which was held as part of the objective of CSIR-Central Food Technology Research Institute (CSIR-CFTRI) Mysore to develop food processing in the North East region, Commerce and Industry Minister, Th Biswajit Singh inaugurated a food processing centre, under the name Kanglei foods at Oinam Awang Leikai today.
The inauguration of the food processing unit was organized by Oinam Awang Leikai Women's Development Association in association with CSIR - Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore and Dept of Commerce and Industries, Government of Manipur.
Oinam Awang Leikai Development Association, which will run the food processing unit, was formed as a SHG in 2008 and has a strength of 100 members.
Varieties of pickles, juice, fermented fish, fermented soyabean, chilli powder will be produced at the centre.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Th Bishwajit stated that Manipur has enough natural resources but has not been utilized to the optimum level.
"We have good soil which can produce delectable quality products/items.
If mis type of entrepreneurship is encouraged, it will provide and improve the source of income of the people and help in solving unemployment problems in the State" he added.
He encouraged the organizers to fine eatables and improve their products so as to attract buyers from the international market.
The Minister also assured to assist such entrepreneur-ship, if and when available, to enhance and develop such food processing unit.
Maranchan Luikham, IAS, Director, Commerce and Industries, N Sanahal Devi, Chairperson, Oinam Municipal Council and K Saratkumar Singh attended the event as guest of honor while L Radhakishore Singh, Chairman, MPCB attended as president of the function.
