Imphal, January 24 2014 :
Alleging that compensation for three trucks which were set ablaze during economic blockade on National Highways was given to a nondescript transport organisation, Transporters' and Drivers' Council (TDC) has urged the State Government to take up befitting actions against Principal Secretary (Home) Suresh Babu and Rehabilitation Director Boby Waikhom.
Speaking to some media persons today, TDC president H Ranjit said that 10 trucks including three belonging to TDC were set ablaze during economic blockade and counter blockade on National Highways in September 2011.The three trucks belonging to TDC were transporting medicines and the compensation they owed to the Government was Rs 17,30,577.9 .
On learning that the Government was about to give away compensation for the vandalised trucks, TDC submitted an application to the Rehabilitation Director on November 26 last year to release the compensation amount for the three trucks to TDC.
However, instead of releasing the compensation amount to TDC, the Principal Secretary (Home) and the Rehabilitation Director gave the compensation to a nondescript transport organisation which smacked of a furtive manner, Ranjit said.
He further asked why the compensation amount was given to somebody who did not make any compensation claim.
TDC today submitted a representation to the Deputy Chief Minister seeking befitting action against Suresh Babu and Boby Waikhom for giving away the compensation amount to wrong person(s).
In case the due compensation amount is not paid in the form of cheque by January 26, transportation of goods along Imphal-Jiribam highway would be suspended from the next day, Ranjit said.
