Poppy plantations destroyed

Under the supervision of NCB Regional Director VS Shahasane, a joint team consisting of personnel of NCB Regional Unit Imphal, Customs Division Imphal, NAB, Saikul police, AMADA and 43 AR destroyed around 100 acres of poppy cultivation at near Saijang village of Senapati district from February 16 and 17 .
The approximate cost of the destructed poppy plants in the illicit market in India is around Rs 6.60 crores, said a press release issued by BCB Superintandent.
It added that the first destruction of poppy plants during this year was carried out on Januray 12 and 13 at Thinghanzang, New Saikot and Solpizang villages in Churachandpur district.
The second operation was conducted at Kangchup hills on January 29 and 30 in which poppy plantatiuons of around 25 acres were destroyed.
The third drive was conducted at Saidang hill ranges of Churachandpur district in which plantations of 68 acres were ravaged.
So far, 254 acres of poppy plantations have been destroyed in different operations involving NCB Imphal and other agencies and security personnel.
