Imphal, February 18:
No Imphal bound oil tankers took to the highways on Monday as the only oil transporter in the State Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) cease services due to the absence of security behind them in the seventh day agitation of the All Manipur Petroleum Tanker drivers' Association (AMPTDA).
The AMPTDA has been on off-the-wheel strike since Feb 12 demanding the replacement of the Imphal depot manager of Indian Oil Limited (Assam Oil Division), Amarjyoti Bordoloi and the supervisor PC Kumar.
In fact, the NRL transporters were not into the fold of the stirring drivers' Assn.
But due to lack of security to escort the oil transporters, it has also cease services with effect from Monday.
As a result, the stock in any oil pumps is running down and if the present situation goes on unabated, stocks are believed to be emptied after 2-3 days from now.
Some filling stations in Imphal started to close down services as it have reportedly run out of stocks.
Auto-rickshaw drivers in the city have been, however not affected by the scarcity of oil till date.
The only concerned for them is the price hike of petrol and diesel, according to an auto-rickshaw driver who spoke to NNN.
It may be recalled that the All Manipur Petroleum Tanker Drivers' Union (AMPTDU) has been launching steer down strike with effect from February 12 demanding the replacement of Amarjyoti Bordoloi, the Imphal branch depot manager of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Limited/Assam Oil Division (AOD) and the supervisor PC Kumar.
