Sangakpham blast continues to exact a heavy price

The Sangakpham bomb blast of August 1, 2011, which numbed the senses of the people and killed five people, including two school girls, continues to exact a heavy price, if the fate of a young student who was injured in the blast is any indication.
Maibam German, a student from Sangakpham bazar was among those who were seriously injured in the bomb blast that rocked Sangakpham Bazar.
Due to his serious injuries following the blast, German would not be able to attend the HSSLC examination which is likely to be conducted in the coming months.
Leave apart studying, German is still enduring severe pain caused by the injuries he sustained since five months back.
Spending his time mostly in the hospital and in his bed since August 2011, uncertainty hangs heavy over the fate of the young German.
The Sangakpham bomb blast occurred on August 1, 2011 and it killed five persons including two girls and injured eight persons including German.
German suffered injuries on both arms, right leg, left thigh and left belly in the dastardly bomb attack.
The injury on his right arm has affected the nerves and disabled its normal functioning.
He also suffered fractures on his right leg and because of it he is not able to stand properly.
His left thigh muscles are also not functioning well even though plastic surgery has helped to erase the scar marks.
Maibam German is a XII class student of Central Academy, Mantripukhri and has filled up the examination form for attending HSSLC examination in Science stream.
However it remains uncertain whether he will be able to appear for the exam or not.
In an exclusive chat with The Sangai Express in his residence located at Sangakpham Bazar, German said that the examination form was submitted without considering his ability to attend it.
He lamented that he stayed away from his study since August 2011 due to the injuries.
Mentioning that doctors assured him of recovery within six months, German expressed his restlessness about the coming examination.
Being a student who is particularly interested in electronics, he mentioned that his present physical condition discouraged him to dream on it.
After the blast, he was treated in RIMS and Imphal Hospital in which three surgeries were carried out there.
Highlighting the State Government's support of Rs 1 Lakh for his treatment, German said that his treatment expenditure till date comes around Rs 2 lakhs.
He further expressed that the his parents were discussing to go for further treatment in Chandigarh.
Expressing the spirit of his youth, he mentioned that he hosted the new year celebration at his home inviting all his close friends.
On that fateful day, German was helping his parents in their shop of Sangakpham Bazar.
Chief Minister O Ibobi also officially announced that the bomb was planted by NSCN (IM), which is under peace process with the Government of India.
