Imphal, January 11 2020:
The All India Working Women's Forum, Manipur, has submitted a memoran-dum to the Governor, praying for immediate intervention regarding the arbitrary arrest and detention of Laishram Sotinkumar, Secretary of CPI Manipur State Council.
Reminding that CPI is one of the oldest political parties of the country and has Parliamentarians in both the Houses of the Indian Parliament, the memo narrated that Left Parties of the country called an all India general strike on December 19 last year against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019.In this connection, CPI MSC and other Left Parties of the State also called for support and cooperation from the general public for the general strike.
Then on December 20, Sotinkumar was picked up by City PS without any valid reason.
The next day, December 21, he was produced before CJM Imphal West which granted him bail.
The memo continued that however, Sotinkumar was picked up from the Court complex and then taken into custody of Nambol PS.
Stating that various unfounded charges have been levelled against Sotinkumar as well, the memo claimed that there was no report of any untoward incident during the general strike called by the Left parties and the protest was indeed peaceful.
As such, the memo appealed to the Governor to do the needful and ensure Sotinkumar's release at the earliest.
