16th Kachai Lemon festival 2020 from January 14

Kachai Fruit Farming and Processing Cooperative Society Limited chairman has invited each and every one of the State to come and attend the 16th Kachai Lemon Festival 2020, which will be held from January 14 to 15 at Kachai village in Ukhrul district.
Speaking to media persons at the Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation today, Kachai Fruit Farming and Processing Cooperative Society Limited chairman Candit Horam maintained that MIDH, Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation and the authorities concerned have been extending necessary assistance in maintaining ample production of Kachai lemons, which has received GI tagging as well.
He further stated that experts and professionals of the department concerned provides knowledge about harvesting lemons and tips to have a bountiful produce.
The chairman appealed to all to make the festival a grand success by participating and tasting the lemons.
Meanwhile, MIDH Mission Director K Devdutta Sharma said that the lemons grown in Kachai village are famous for its unusual taste.
He stated that the department has been taking up several projects, with an objective to promote Kachai lemon, including area expansion of 800 ha while certificates of NOP (organic certificates) were distributed to farmers.
Eastern Border Area Development Authority, Horticulture Department Project Director N Ningthemjao stated that NEC has been funding for the third time this year for organising the festival, through Eastern Border Area Development Authority.
He continued that around 80 percent of the total fund (Rs 10 lakh) has been released by NEC prior the festival.
