Imphal, September 30 2019:
Accusing the Dalit Sahitya Academy of attempting to distort history by including a portrait of Dr Ambedkar during the 123rd Lamyanba Hijam Irawat birth anniversary event which was organised by the organisation today, Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has demanded the organisation to clarify immediately.
Speaking to media persons at KSA office at Khoyathong today, its youth affairs and sports secretary Khulakpam Sanjoy said that Dalit Sahitya Academy organised the 123rd birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat at Manipur Press Club today.
However, a photo of Dr BR Ambedkar was also placed alongside that of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat which is highly condemnable, he said.
Sanjoy reasoned that putting such a completely unrelated portrait at the function will lead to confusion for the future generation which is immensely disappointing.
He clarified that even if Dr Ambedkar was an imminent individual and a great leader who contributed a lot for the Dalits and for the people, he has no relation whatsoever with Lamyanba Hijam Irawat.
September 30 has no significance for Dr Ambedkar, he added and urged all associations or organisations to do proper research so as to avoid such incidents which have the potential to spread wrong information to others.
If any organisation or body fail to heed the warning, KSA will take up appropriate actions against those bodies as well as those who participate in the events, he cautioned.
Further demanding the organiser of today's event to clarify before the public at the earliest, he warned that failure to do so will force the KSA to declare the organisers as against the people and attempting to distort the history of the State.
