Imphal, September 30 2019:
Accusing the Manipur University authorities of alleged malpractices in appointment to the vacant posts of teaching faculties in the university, DESAM has warned that it will launch intensive agitation against such unethical practice if the authorities concerned do not rectify their errors at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons at DESAM HQs today, its general secretary Shital Oinam said that on May 25 this year, an advertisement was issued for the appointment of 115 vacant posts of teaching staff of the university (out of which 39 posts were that of Assistant Professor).
Explaining that candidates are to be screened for the posts as per the UGC guidelines, he alleged that on September 24, the University authorities resolved to let the Guest Faculties, who are recently inducted into the Academic Council, to bypass the screening process and to go for direct interview, which is highly condemnable.
This is akin to the university authorities acting according to their own fancy and whim, he alleged.
He continued that DESAM is shocked by the mentality of the teachers who signed the resolution and added that the student body lauds the courage of the 30 Assistant Professors who submitted a complaint to the Registrar of the University on September 26 condemning the resolution.
Alleging that the university is being controlled and taken for a ride by some Professors, he demanded the authorities concerned to revoke or rectify the resolutions before external experts are called in .
