'Tribal Food Mela' under Rashtriya Poshan Maah held at Kpi DHQs

A 'Tribal Food Mela', showcasing traditional cuisine, especially dishes and drinks prepared with locally grown organic and nutritious grains and vegetables, was organised by Autonomous District Council, Sadar Hills Kangpokpi under Rashtriya Poshan Maah (National Nutrition Month) as the culminating event of the Nutrition month at Nute Kailhang, Kangpokpi DHQs today.
ADC Sadar Hills Chairman, Haokholal Hangshing graced the occasion as chief guest and Thangjakam Misao, vice-Chairman ADC Sadar Hills and Lalithambigai K, Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi attended the function as guests of honour while Lunkhoseh Kipgen, Chairman, Kangpokpi Town Committee attended as functional president.

Variety of local tribal culinary and drinks at twenty different stalls open during the food mela caught the attention of the visitors and food lovers while Mao Daili Stall, amongst all, was the main attraction of the Food Mela as visitors thronged the stall throughout the day.
A locally made traditional 'rice beer' was served with bamboo cup while all the staffs of the stall were smartly attired in beautiful traditional dress.
Stall of ICDS Cell, Kangpokpi, one of the best performing departments during the Nutrition month and Laikoiching Stall were also among the stalls which caught the fancy of the visitors.
Besides, stall showcasing various different traditional attires were also opened.
ADC Sadar Hills councillors, T Manihar Singh, CEO SHADC Kangpokpi and his staff, Thangjalal Touthang, Nodal Officer, Rashtriya Poshan Maah, Kangpokpi District, Post Commander, 38 AR Kangpokpi Post, members of Kangpokpi Town Committee, KYU and KWWO apart from officials from medical department also took part in the inaugural function of the food mela during which a free medical camp was also held.
Haokholal Hangshing, after kicking off the food mela addressed the gathering that the primary objective of organizing the 'Tribal Food Mela' is to promote 'nutritional foods' among the masses while adding that tribal food means organic food and organic food is logically good for health.
He also said that the 'National Nutrition Mission' is to spread awareness on the importance of nutrition and to achieve improvement in the nutritional status of children, adolescent girls and boys, pregnant women and lactating mothers.
He further said that Kangpokpi has vibrant and rich cuisines, however, people should pay sufficient attention to nutrition and healthy diet and appealed the people of Kangpokpi to begin taking more organic and nutritious foods while encouraging to eat healthy so as to stay healthy.
Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi, Lalithambigai Kalidas maintained that the Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took the initiative of National Nutrition Mission for improvement of nutrition standard in the country by covering all districts across the country under this scheme.
She also highlighted various activities undertaken during the nutrition month in the district by various departments while appreciating the tireless efforts of all the departments embarking on the assigned activities enthusiastically especially the ICDS Cell, Kangpokpi, Medical departments, etc.
Inspection of stalls by dignitaries and enjoying the varieties of foods and drinks by the visitors marked the occasion.
