Chairman of PDA Dr Kh Loken inaugurated the festival as chief guest.
Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Shyamkumar presided over the festival which was also attended by MLA of Wangoi A/C Salam Joy, MLA of Wangkhem A/C K Meghachandra, MLA of Oinam A/C I Ibohalbi and Director of Agriculture Department RK Nayansana Devi as guests of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Loken observed that the fruit products of the State have been lying in waste due to lack of understanding among the people on the food value of these products and absence of a marketing policy.
So it is essential on the part of the authorities concerned to spread awareness among the people on the food value of these fruit products and formulate an effective marketing policy.
In his presidential address, Deputy Speaker Th Shyamkumar said the efforts of the horticulturists in the State deserve appreciation in view of the fact that they have successfully grown and produce such large quantity of Pineapples without assistance from any quarters.
While informing that the Pineapple festival would be made an annual event, he also urged the horticulturists to work hard toward increasing their production in the coming years.
Professors from Central Agricultural University also spoke on different related topics as resource persons.
The cultural troupe of Andro Top Chingtha also presented cultural dances at the occasion.
