Imphal, July 20:
Dissatisfaction and frustration is running amongst a large number of officials in the Power Department over the flip flop stand of the Government over their pay scale, which instead of increasing after revision has been reduced.
As per a Gazette notification issued on March 15, 1999 on the basis of a notice issued by the Finance Commissioner on March 10 the same year, the pay scale of the Assistant Engineers was fixed at Rs 6500-10,500 .
As a large number of AEs protested the pay scale, the Cabinet constituted a Cabinet sub-committee to look into the matter.
After going into the details of the case, the sub-committee submitted its recommendations after which the Principal Secretary (Finance) issued an order following which a Gazette notification was issued on November 25, 1999, which revised the pay scale to 7500-12000 .
On the other hand, the Chief Engineer of the Power Department issued an order on May 14 this year to the effect that SOs under the ACP-II will receive a pay scale of 6500-200-10500 with effect from July 1, 2005.After the matter was scrutinised by a Screening Committee the Chief Engineer issued another order on July 2 this year to the effect that next higher scale of the SOs under ACP II will be 7450-225-11500.In fact the next higher pay scale of the SOs should be equivalent to the pay scale of the AEs which is 7500-12000, said some disgruntled officials.
