Imphal, July 20:
In connection with the Government's move to acquire land for construction of the proposed Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science at Porompat, Soibam Leikai Ayangpalli Road Youth Club (SAYC) has made it clear that no official should be deputed by the Government for surveying the land until an agreement has been signed with the Government in this regard.
Talking to mediapersons at Porompat today, SAYC president Dr P Rajmani said that the Club and the people of area have no objection as such to acquisition of the required 33 acres of land for the purpose of setting up the medical college.
However, the Government should leave out one-third of the 3 acres of land belonging to the Morning High School and its playground located in front of the club.
In this regard, he informed that a memorandum has already been submitted to the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in April last, though no opportunity to talk over the matter has been granted so far.
'We also welcome the proposal of setting up the medical college.
However, we would appreciate leaving out some land for Soibam Leikai area which do not even have a community hall', Rajmani explained.
The present playground of the Morning High School has been developed by the Club.
The State Government ought to think over before abolishing a school and utilising its land area for another project, he said.
On the other hand, he went on to say pointing out that with exception to Modern College and Dairy Farm there were no other office in Porompat area.
But allotment of the available land by the Government from time to time for various purposes has led to a situation in which there is no more land in the area.
A total of 12/13 acres of land had been allotted to private individuals, he disclosed.
People of the area who do not have enough land have been using the cycle shed of the Modern College or the hall of the High School in connection with performance of social and religious functions, he disclosed.
