Imphal, December 17, 2011:
Holding the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Chief Engineer Mangsatabam Imomacha responsible for the death of the Department's care-taker (chowkidar) Soram Ibomcha and his son Yaipu, a group of women from Irilbung area stormed at the Keishamthong Top Leirak residence of the Engineer today.
Numbering about 30, the agitated women, who reportedly came in auto-rickshaws shouted slogans at the Chief Engineer's residence, where only State security force personnel on house guard were present at the moment.
As the women continued with their slogans accusing the CE for the dead of the father-son duo and rained stones at the house, a close relative of the victims fainted.
Moments later, the house-guards opened at at-least four rounds of fire in the air and at the ground consequently leading to the women protestors moving away from there.
Speaking to newspersons, one of the protestors claimed that CE Imocha not only heeded pleas to rescue the father-son duo from the clutches of the abductors but ignored Ibomcha as a PHED employee/care-taker.
Taking serious note of the CE not showing any sympathy to the aggrieved family even after the slaying of Ibomcha and his son, she also condemned alleged instruction to the house-guards to open fire.
She also contended that the Chief Engineer's stoic silence after the abduction and subsequent killing of the father and son amounts to connivance with the murderers.
On the otherhand, protest against the killing continued for the second successive day today as Irilbung locals prevented vehicular movement on the Imphal-Yairipok road while sit-in protest was staged at Kongba Keithel and Irilbung, with the latter protest organised by blocking the road.
