Senapati, September 13 2016:
With the State Government overlooking the essential need of maintaining the Maram to Phaibung road via Lakhamai village, the Chilivai Naga Union (CNU) consisting of 23 villages, has strongly decried the negligence of the State Government.
In a statement issued to the press, CNU stated that people of the region are now convinced that they are being treated like second class citizens by the State Government.
Elaborating, CNU said the road is in a pathetic condition but the State Government has turned a blind eye to this.
Detailing the pathetic condition of the road, CNU said that the stretch between Sirong and Lakhamai is slushy through out the year and the situation gets worse when there is rain.

With the road unmotorable over long stretches, passengers have no other choice than to pull the vehicle for about 4-5 kms.
Other than this, the road stretches between Phaibung Khullen and Phaibung Lower, Khongdei Khuman and Thiwa and Tadubi and Laii Shirafii are all in the same state forcing passengers to disembark and either pull or push their vehicle.
Such is the road condition of Maram via Lakhamai to Phaibung, that travellers are forced to take the Paomata via Tadubi to Maram which takes 5 hours.
The Maram to Phaibung via Lakhamai route takes about 2 hours 30 minutes to cover.
Moreover, other facilities such as Phaibung Khullen BSNL and Airtel Towers are not functioning even after completion of construction works.
It further said that other facilities such as the PHC at Phaibung and Laii and other PHSCs have no adequate staff nor proper medical facilities.
Due to lack of doctors and medical staff many patients have to be taken either to Senapati district headquarters or Imphal, and the pathetic road conditions have only added to the woes of the people, it said.
