Ukhrul, December 11:
Taking strong exception to All the Manipur Road Transport Driver's and Motor Worker's Union allegation towards a police officer on duty, the HKL (Ukhrul students Union ), Ukhrul District Small Vehicle Owners Association (UDSVOA) and Ukhrul District Sports Association (UDSA) have termed it humiliating and irrational and also was against the law.
In a press meet held at the Press Club, Wino Bazaar, Ukhrul after publication of the press statement issued by the transporters on December 4, president of HKL, Godfreyson Zingkhai, president of UDSVOA Vareisui Horam and president of UDSA AS Somingam informed that considering the advent of busy Christmas shopping season, the organizations jointly requested the SDPO Ukhrul to control the heavy congestion of traffic within the Ukhrul town.
Accordingly, the SDPO Ukhrul directed the OC Ukhrul police station to control and regulate traffic within the town areas with immediate effect and in the line of duty a team of police personnel lead by 2nd OC Ukhrul police station conducted the traffic regulation duty on Novermber 29 from 6.30 am to 10 am the same day and removed all vehicles wrongly parked in the town.
Saying that prior information and notification was given to all the booking counters and drivers of all the buses and heavy vehicles plying along Imphal-Ukhrul route to park their vehicles at Awontang bus parking, Ukhrul with immediate effect.
However, November 29, the drivers and helpers of six passenger buses plying along the Imphal-Ukhrul route defied the instruction given by the police and drove into the town area breaking the traffic regulation thereby created heavy traffic jam.
Subsequently the police team lead by the 2nd OC of Ukhrul PS stopped them at police station gate and warned them not to repeat in the future.
There is no question of the police team bashing up or committing excesses against the drivers and their helpers.
The HKL , UDSVOA and UDSA further warned the transporters plying from Imphal to Ukhrul to strictly follow traffic regulations in the greater interest of the public as well as for safety and to refrain from taking up any unwanted strike or bandh.
