Mentioning the historic importance of the road which is also known as Tongjei Maril, Ibohal said that it was the only connecting road with Assam in the past.
Potholes were not repaired once till today after it was black topped in 1968, he said adding that the road passes through Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Senapati and Tamenglong districts.
Saying that the distance between Bishnupur and Rengpang is 95 Kms, Ibohal added that the road connects Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam's native village with Bishnupur district headquarters.
Ibohal added that Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, who represents Bishnupur A/C, must also be aware of the condition of the road.
It is unfortunate that both the Ministers do not initiate any action to repair the dilapidated road so far, he added.
Taking part in the press conference, Bishnupur Municipal Council, Ward No 3 Member Loukrakpak Dhaneshore said that he would support the demand made by CRESA in association with Chiningkon, Ngarian and other villages located around Bishnupur.
Commissioning of Khoupum Dam is possible only because of the road, Ibohal said and adding that Khoupum Daidimjang which is the native village of Gaikhangam, is connected to Bishnupur through this road.
