Former Ukhrul ADC Vice Chairman killed in militant ambush

Former Ukhrul ADC Vice Chairman Ngalangzar Malue (60) of Nongman village was killed in an ambush laid at Finch Corner, Ukhrul district under Shangshak police station around 11.30 am today by unidentified militants.
The ADC member was travelling along with his nephew Rataimi Malue (22 ) in a hired van from Imphal to visit his ailing mother Anemla Malue at their native village of Nongman, Ukhrul district.
When media persons reached the spot, a police team from Imphal led by ADGP LM Khaute and DIG Range IV Chandramani have already arrived at the spot.
The ambush site is in between the two Assam Rifle outposts of Lambui and Shangshak, 21 Kms away from Ukhrul district headquarters.
The ADC member hired a van from Imphal to visit his mother who is in serious condition along with his nephew.

On the way, witnesses stated, a white colour gypsy was seen parked and its occupants halted the hired van, dark green in colour.
The nephew who was travelling along with the ADC Member said that four persons in denim dresses started shooting with AK rifles from the gypsy.
The villagers said that they heard around 8-10 rounds of shots, from the spot where police recovered 8 AK cartridges.
The ADC Member Nga-langzar was found lying breathless in a pool of blood inside the van riddled with 3/4 bullets at his chest, while his nephew Rataimi bore bullet injury at right shoulder.
He was administered first aid medical attention at 44 AR hospital, Shangshak.
Later he was rushed to Imphal and his condition is said to be serious.
Soon after the incident, the driver of the van was rushed to Imphal for treatment by fellow taxi drivers who were plying along the road.
Meanwhile a team of 41 AR led by Commdt Gaurav Bose rushed to the spot and deployed AR troops in the area to ensure safety of local people.
At around 3:20 pm, the dead body was taken to Imphal for post mortem and post mortem was conducted today late in the evening in presence of a Magistrate with full video coverage.
The corpse has been handed to family members.
MLA Victor Keishing, LM Khaute ADGP Manipur and other high ranking police officers also visited the slain ADC member at JNIMS morgue.
Speaking to media persons, M Melori, daughter of deceased M Ngalangzar said that her father along with the cousin brother went to Nong-man village in a hurry to visit her grandmother who is critically ill after they were called by other family members.
They went to Nongman village without any security escorts.
She also said that today morning they received a phone call from an unknown number and when they picked up the phone, the unknown person hang up the phone without answering them.
The deceased is survived by his wife and six children.
The driver has been identified as Khangembam Bigyani (41) s/o late Chaoba of Khurai Thongam Leikai.
he received a bullet injury at waist and is presently undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity According to fellow drivers who were present at Raj Medicity, Bigyani stated the incident happened at around 11.40 am on their way to Ukhrul and when they crossed Flinch Corner, they were stopped by two uknown youth.
Moments later some other unknown persons came out from the bushes along the road side and opened indiscriminate toward them without saying a single word.
The Ukhrul District Congress president AS Shimreiyo said that Ngalangzar was president of Tangkhul Zingtun Longphang and former president of Ukhrul District Congress Committee, he took active role in defusing the misunderstanding between UNC and Naga ADC members.
Vehemently condemning the brutal assassination, Shimreiyo said that all misunderstanding and problems can be resolved through dialogue.
