Dingo notes role of women in improving socio-economy

Imphal, September 15 2022: Social welfare minister Heikham Dingo has highlighted the importance of role of women in improving socio-economic condition of a society as Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) celebrated its 16th foundation day at Hotel Classic Grande, here on Thursday.

As chief guest of the event which was held under the theme 'Socio-economy and political status of women in Manipur', Dingo said that unity and integrity among the different communities could help in improving socio-economic condition of the state.

Though the state lacks big industries, people of the state are hard-working, he said.

While conceding that the government often faces issues in improving the economy of the state due to lack of resources but it should not be a deterrent for the people from striving for a better status.

They should explore new possibilities and put their best efforts to bring development and prosperity in the society.

Women have also key role in this regard, he noted, while hailing the roles and responsibilities taken up women of the state for ages.

The minister further said that women in the state enjoy high political status and empowerment.

The BJP government also has woman minister and MLAs, which is a good sign for the state as a whole, he maintained while calling upon the women of the state to continue contributing their mite for a better Manipur.

In her address, MSCW chairperson Salam Ulka expressed concern over the modern trend of family dynamics and stressed the need for introspecting the reasons of more and more women braving divorce and leave behind broken families instead of fighting for better families by resolving differences and issues.

Lack of moral education and regard for family values could be among the main reasons behind this trend, she opined.

The chairperson also stressed the need for alleviating the social status of women in order to achieve higher targets of development.

Manipur State Commission for Schedule Tribe chairperson Thuigai Mathui Rongmei, MSCW members Lourembam Dayabati, T Chuongsin Koireng and Tumlip Tiningpham Monsang also attended the celebration as special guests.

The dignitaries released the commission's journal 'Role of Women' Volume 1.Women minister and MLAs, and former chairpersons of MSCW were also honoured by presenting gifts on the occasion.

The technical session was moderated by social worker N Jeevanmala wherein WinG convenor Nonibala Narengbam, WAD secretary Sobita Mangsatabam, DM University School of Humanities Dean professor Ch Sheelaramani and MSCST member Dr Tara Manchin Hangzo spoke as resource persons on topics related to the theme of the observance.
