Along with rounding up three persons who tried to get contract works in connection with construction of the Regional Water Sports Complex at Takmu by misusing the name of UNLF, the central special force (CSF) of the proscribed outfit has asked three other persons who are also allegedly involved in the case to surrender within January 12.UNLF had already announced that it would not be involved in any contract works.
The three accused persons identified as Pukhrambam Devanita alias Devan (41) of Langmeidong Mamang Leikai, Akham Joy (57) of Kwakeithel Bazar and Yumnam Rameshwar (55) of Singjamei Chongtham Leikai were paraded before mediapersons somewhere in Imphal East area yesterday.
Speaking to media-persons, a spokesperson of the CSF informed that the three accused misused the name of some senior officers of the UNLF in threatening a contractor from Changangei who is engaged in the construction work of the sports complex.
Apart from issuing threats through their mobile phones, Devan and Joy went to the residence of the contractor on January 4 to demand handing over the contract work to them while Rameshwar went to the house of the contractor yesterday, the spokesperson said, while informing that all three of them were rounded up yesterday.
During the course of the interrogation, Devan disclosed that mastermind behind the attempt to take over the contract work by misusing the name of the outfit as one Ningthoujam Kullachandra alias KK (50) of Pangaltabi near handpump and his mobile no.is 9856189116, the spokesperson said, adding that one Lairenjam Tomba (38) of Pangaltabi Mayai Leikai whose mobile no.is 9856805733 was also involved in the case.
By pretending himself as a member of the UNLF, another person identified as Ningthoujam Roshan (33) of Chairel (mobile phone no.9856105810) also went to the residence of the contractor to threaten and exert pressure on the latter to take over the contract work, the spokesperson, while clarified that UNLF has stopped involving in contract work after the announcement made in this regard long ago.
The spokesperson further informed that all the three accused persons paraded before mediapersons would be handed over to their respective family members after giving stern warning against such activities in future.
Setting January 12 as the deadline, the spokesperson has also asked Khullachandra, Tomba and Roshan to surrender to the outfit and warned of awarding severe penalty if they fail to do so.
