Imphal, January 07:
Tension is reported to be running high among the different communities settling in Sajik Tampak area of Chandel district following the alleged undue interference of the armed outfit United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) which support one particular community in connection with land dispute.
The shimmering situation has come out after the armed outfit allegedly forced Kuki Chiefs' Association of Chandel district to issue an order to the effect of appointing chief of Molphei village Nengkhojang Haokip as the new chief of Khailet Khulet village and the announcement of the same through the media.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at Manipur Press Club here today, chief of Khailet Khulet Liankhankhu Kukang informed that case related to the dispute over the boundary of his and Nemgkhojang's village has been pending in the Law Court for the last 10 years.
Inspite of that on November 6 last year, UKLF summoned him to come to Nazareth village located in Sugnu area for talks and settlement of the issue.
However, he did not go.
On that same day, UKLF forced Kuki Chiefs Association to issue an order declaring Nengkhothang as the chief of his village, Kukang said, adding that the armed outfit has been deputing some people for issuing job cards under NREGS on the sly.
Setting January 15 as the deadline for surrendering, UKLF has even threatened to kill all my family members over the issue, Kukang said.
Blaming Nengkhothang, Kukang asserted that the present situation has come about after Nengkhothang prevailed upon UKLF and it would only disintegrate and bring disrepute to Zou community.
Kukang further clarified that he had never worked against UKLF nor has any connection whatsover with Zou Defence Volunteers as alleged.
