Cabinet recommends drought-hit status for State

Imphal, July 20 2019:
A Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Biren Singh today, has decided to recommend the Central Government to announce Manipur as a drought hit State.
Education Minister Th Radheshyam made the above statement while speaking to media persons at his office after the end of the Cabinet meeting.
Starting from June till July 19, the State experienced only around 231.40 mm of rainfall this year, instead of the normal 530.80 mm of rainfall.

The Minister continued that the ban imposed by the State Government on any form of recruitment/appointment, has been lifted for some Departments as special case and added that the Cabinet has decided to approve declaration of results for appointment of contract Lecturers for School Education Department.
The Cabinet also gave its assent to fill up vacant posts of stenographer in various Departments, apart from lifting the ban on the recruitment of two IRB battalions under the Home Department.
The Cabinet further gave its approval to appoint Chairman for Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC), the Minister said, adding mat appointment for other departments will also be considered after taking into account the nature of case.
On the other hand, according to a reliable source, it is being reported that retired Lt General LN Singh might be appointed as the Chairman of MPSC.
Further, Radheshyam continued that the Cabinet has approved constitution of a State Project Management Unit chaired by the Chief Secretary as well as various project implementing units, for a project to be taken up by the Public Health Engineering Department which is aimed at ensuring availability of drinking water to each household.
For the said project, which has three components, New Development Bank has provided Rs 3282 crore as soft loan to the State Government, he said, adding that Rs 1157.33 crore is for Integrated Imphal Water Supply for Imphal, Phase III, Rs 434.38 crore for 25 towns and Rs 1690.31 crore for.
1745 villages.
The Minister continued that the Cabinet also approved the report submitted by the Revenue Department concerning land acquisition for the Tupul-Imphal railway line.
Deputy CM Y Joykumar, Education Minister Th Radheshyam, Forest Minister Th Shyamkumar and Revenue Minister Karam Shyam attended the Cabinet meeting.
