At least three persons have been shot dead in the past 48 hours at diffferent places even as the man found killed at an Imphal East district location yesterday has turned out to a be groomsman.
The groomsman gunned down by a team of Imphal East district police commando last evening at Angom Leikai Lamlong Laiching has been identified as Lairenlakpam Sanjoy alias Nanao (31) s/o Biren of Phaknung Makha Leikai.
While his other professional details could not be ascertained Sanjoy used to supplement family income as a groomsman (bor shennaba).
According to family sources, the 31 year old left home at around 10.30 am yesterday to purchase charcoal besides conveying to his family members that he would be meeting a friend with whom he had some financial matter to settle.
Till about 4.30 pm contact through his mobile phone could be established but later the phone was in switched off mode, they recounted.
Sanjoy left behind a three year old girl while his wife is said to be four months pregnant.
Insisting that Sanjoy having any connection with armed group is very remote or his involvement in illegal acts out of the question as he never fail to return home, the family members informed he was supposed to solemnise three marriage ceremonies.
The body has been handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS morgue today.
A youth was shot dead by some unidentified gunmen at Nehru Marg junction, about a kilometre South of Churachandpur police station at about 7.20 pm yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as one Jangkholal Zou (26) s/o late Lunkhothang Zou of Sangaikot village, Churachandpur.
A bullet which hit him at the back side of his left ear exited through the right side of face.
With the registration of a case in Churachandpur PS, the corpse has been handed over to family members after post mortem at Churachandpur district hospital.
In yet another incident, a bullet riddled body has been fished out from Khuga River at near Wapokpi High School under Kumbi police station at around 10.30 am today.
The corpse is being kept at RIMS morgue.
Meanwhile, an individual in his early 20s suffered bullet wounds on the left palm and wrist after some persons fired at him at Samurou Bazar at around 1 pm today.
The injured youth identified as Laiphrakpam James (23) s/o Ibocha of Samurou Makha Leikai has been admitted to RIMS Hospital.
According to reports, James lost about Rs 300 at a dice game at Samurou bazar and was insisting that some amount be refunded.
As an argument ensued the gunmen suddenly approached james and opened fire.
