Imphal, July 18 2025: Two judokas from Manipur are set to take part at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games, scheduled to be held in Essen, Germany, from July 16 to 27, 2025 .

The judo competition will commence on July 23 and run through July 27 .

Among the 14-member Indian squad, Ningthoujam Sheetal Singh will compete in the men's 90 kg judo category.

He hails from Mayang Imphal Thana Mamang Leikai, and is the son of Ningthoujam Deben Singh and Ningthoujam Ibemma Devi.

Joining him from the state is Khaidem Taibanganbi Chanu, who will compete in the women's 70 kg category.

She is from Mayang Imphal Thana Wangkhei Leikai, and is the daughter of Khaidem Gunamani Meetei and Khoirom Bimolata Devi.

Representing India as one of the three official judo coaches is Oinam Rasheswori Chanu of Langthabal Kun-ja Makha Leikai, Manipur.

She is the daughter of the late Oinam Irabot Meitei and the late Oinam Ongbi Subadani Leima.

Rasheswori is currently affiliated with the JSW Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS), Vidyanagar, and brings valuable experience and expertise to the national squad.

The Indian judo team for the event comprises 14 athletes - seven men and seven women - supported by four officials, including two coaches for the men's team, one coach for the women's squad, and one team manager.

The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games will witness participation from 60 countries across five continents, with a total of 392 judokas (214 men and 178 women) set to compete on the global stage.
