34th State Sub-Junior & Senior Thang-Ta Championship kicks off

The 34th State Sub-Junior & Senior Thang-Ta Championship 2025 was formally inaugurated on Saturday at Thang-Ta Shanglen, Yumnam Huidrom, Imphal West.
The inauguration ceremony attended by Moirangthem Rajen Meetei, State Kala Akademi awardee and principal of Pahulasi, Mayaikoibi, who served as the chief guest.
Also in attendance were Huidrom Premlumar Singh, president of the Huyel Langion Thang-Ta Association, Manipur; Thounaojam Priyokumar Singh, former secretary of the Thang-Ta Federation of India; and Heikrujam Cha Babu, secretary of the Huyel Langion Thang-Ta Association, Manipur, as guests of honour.
A total of 196 athletes from 28 Thang-Ta teams across Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Kakching, and Thoubal districts are competing for podium honours in the championship.
On the first day, young female athletes competed in the Phunaba Ani event under the sub-junior girls' category.
Angom Nongleima Chanu of PAHULASI, Mayaikoibi, claimed gold in the -25kg category, while Lanchenbi N from Paree Imom, Langjing, secured top honours in the -29kg class.
Jolly Chanu, representing NKSFI, Tentha Heibung, won gold in the -33kg category.
The -41kg event saw S Rebika Chanu of Achipa Thang-Ta take gold, with H Lenchenbi Devi from BDHLTTA, Kakyai, earning silver.
M Chanchan Chanu of MNTT, Heirok, emerged victorious in the -45kg category, followed by O Jina Chanu (BDHLTTA, Kakyai) with silver and T Anju Chanu (Achipa Thang-Ta) claiming bronze.
In the -49kg category, M Ayingbi Devi of LKTAS, Kang-mong, secured the gold medal, with M Pinky Devi (MNTT, Heirok) and T Memton Chanu (ICASA, Konung Mamang) taking silver and bronze, respectively.
Linthoi Ng from Tombi Thang-Ta captured gold in the -53kg event, while S Luxmi Devi of UHLA, Samurou, dominated the +53kg categoiy to win gold.
